The devastated mum of a teen girl killed by a street racer witnessed police attending the scene before finding out her daughter was the victim of the crash. Courtney Ellis, 14, was killed instantly after she was struck by driver Brandon Turton, who was racing another vehicle at high speed through St Helens and Haydock on September 19, 2020.
The 21-year-old admitted to causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for six years and nine months yesterday. Courtney's mum described the horror moment she realised her daughter had been killed in the collision after she saw emergency services at the scene on her way back from work.
Addressing Turton before his sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court, Angela Burke said: "The night that you killed my 14-year-old daughter was the most horrific experience I have ever had to go through. It was truly a parent's worst nightmare."
