Multiple fire crews tackle blaze at power station in Scottish town

MULTIPLE fire crews have been called out to tackle a blaze at a power station in Glenrothes.

Three fire crews were called to a reported blaze at the RWE Markinch Power Station at around 2.45pm on Saturday.

The fire is still ongoing according to the emergency services.

It is currently unclear what caused the fire.

The combined heat and power plant in Glenrothes is the biggest plant of its type in the UK and has been operational since 2015.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We have three appliances in attendance, dealing with a fire at the biomass plant.

“We are at work extinguishing the fire.

“The incident is still ongoing.”
