Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne has been named to the Dave O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List as one of the top quarterbacks in the country.
The award revealed its preseason watch list on Tuesday, with Thorne being one of 35 signal callers to make the list. The other Big Ten quarterbacks included are Sean Clifford of Penn State, Aidan O’Connell of Purdue, C.J. Stroud of Ohio State and Taulia Tagovailoa of Maryland.
Thorne threw for a school-record 27 touchdown passes last year and also had more than 3,000 passing yards. This will be his second season as the starting quarterback of the Spartans so expectations are even higher for Thorne in 2022.
