Dhoni reached the landmark in style when he clobbered Mark Wood for back-to-back sixes in the 20th over after LSG won the toss and put CSK to bat.

Dhoni smacked a 89-metre six and another to send the adoring Chepauk crowd into a frenzy. A delirious crowd had their glimpse of 'Thala', Dhoni as he carted two big sixes before being dismissed, going for a third off Wood's bowling for 12 off 3 balls.

Dhoni, who attained the feat in 236 matches, became the fifth Indian player and seventh overall after Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina AB de Villiers to complete 5,000 runs in the league.

Kohli is currently leading the top-run getter chart with 6706 runs in 224 matches, followed by Dhawan (6284 in 207 matches), Warner (5937 in 163 matches), Rohit (5880 runs in 228 matches), Raina (5528 runs in 205 matches), and de Villiers (5162 runs in 184 matches).
