With houses getting colder as temperatures drop outside, winter can often raise the pesky problem of mould - which at best can look unsightly and at worst cause some serious damage to both your home and your health.
There are a lot of tips and tricks out there to try when it comes to banishing mould - and it seems that some methods are more unconventional than others. According to fans of cleaning expert Mrs Hinch, one hack involves using a product typically found in your bathroom cabinet rather than forking out on expensive mould sprays.
Posting in the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook, one person claimed that they use Listerine mouthwash to clean mould from their walls when asked for top tips for getting rid of the stubborn problem. "Original Listerine mouthwash stops it re-growing," they explained - and cleaning experts have vouched for the success of this unusual hack, The Mirror reports.

Emily Barron, a cleaning pro from Rezigo, confirmed: "Yes - Listerine can kill mould and keep it at bay as it kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria in your mouth, the same can be said for killing bacteria in your home." Available at virtually any supermarket for roughly between £1 and £4, the mouthwash is a cost-effective way to banish mould - just make sure you buy the right one and apply it correctly, Emily advised.
"To kill the fungal spores of mould, use plain, clear, and inexpensive ethanol-based mouthwash," the expert instructed. "Dilute the mixture by using one part mouthwash to three parts water. Spray this on the affected areas once every few days and keep the room well-ventilated or use a dehumidifier to ensure airflow and reduce the risk for further build-up."
