MP: Maheshwar, Ujjain & Mandu emerge as hotspots for destination weddings

INDORE: Maheshwar, Ujjain and Mandu are the new season wedding destinations for soon to be married couples with encouraging bookings for weddings.

With destination weddings catching up pace in the state, Madhya Pradesh Tourism is contemplating to add on rooms and facilities in resorts at scenic locations.

The department is adding 16 rooms at its Mandu properties to expand the facility.

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation had booked 60 weddings in its properties in the pandemic years and this year so far 20 weddings have been booked for April and May.

N K Swarnkar, regional manager, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation, Indore said, “Resorts at hills and scenic locations are becoming popular for hosting weddings. We have booked some weddings for summers and have started receiving enquiries for November and December. We are working on adding more facilities and rooms to accommodate such requests at our properties.”

Tourist footfall in Indore region is gradually increasing with an average footfall of 3.5-4 lakh per month, according to Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation.

Officials said wedding bookings remain high in winter months due to conducive weather while in summers bookings drop due to high temperature at most locations in Malwa and Nimar.

Apart from historical and hilly locations, religious destinations with sprawling properties are being preferred by families for hosting weddings, said players from event management and travel industry.

Travel Agents Association of India MP and CG chapter chairman, Hemendra Singh Jadon said, “MP is emerging as one of the destination wedding states. Usually people from Indore prefer Goa and Rajasthan to host weddings but now many places in MP have come on the list of families mainly having historical monuments.”

According to event management companies, a pandemic had fuelled the trend of destination weddings even amongst middle class families but with things back to normal people are looking for sprawling properties to host extended guests. TNN
