Mowgli has shared a fresh update on the progress of its impressive new Bristol restaurant. Fans of the popular Indian street food group will have to wait a little longer after it confirmed a further delay for the Bristol opening.
The restaurant was initially due to open in October 2019, taking over the Grade I listed site formerly occupied by Pizza Express in Corn Street. The building has a rich history with Heritage England stating it has retained a very rare and notable example of a late medieval vaulted undercroft.
Setbacks during the pandemic and the complex building work in the old building caused severe delays and had initially promised a summer 2023 start date. On Wednesday (June 28), Mogwli said that "all the pieces are in place for a November/December 2023 opening".

On Facebook, the restaurant said: "It’s been a long time coming but it’s been a complicated build of a complex old building which we started and then Covid hit us. While she was mothballed the building herself and her gutters decided to undo all the good preliminary work we had done!
"But we have appeased the great Corn Street Grade 1 dowager and it seems she has now deigned to be designed up and serve up our chat bombs and butter chicken to beautiful Brizzle. Thankyou [sic] all who have been enquiring after her and following the ups and downs. Your support means the world and we will get there!"
Mowgli is the brainchild of child protection barrister-turned-restaurateur Nisha Katona, who launched her first venue in Liverpool in 2014. The menu at Mowgli includes vegan and gluten-free sections alongside an extensive selection of meat dishes, with a huge array of reasonably-priced options to choose from.
The new Bristol site is part of a series of new restaurants from the Indian street food chain, which currently has 17 locations across the UK. Mowgli's Beverley restaurant is due to open in September.
