Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has been told Aston Villa have better options to consider than the pending Lyon free agent.
Gabby Agbonlahor is never shy in sharing his views and was quick to tell Crystal Palace they are no competition to Villa, if the pair become embroiled in a battle to land the signature of the man who has netted in excess of 20 goals in each of three of his five seasons at OL. The 26-year-old is poised to become a priority signing for a clutch of clubs on the Continent with Napoli and Marseille among his bulging suitor list. However, Agbonalhor can only see one winner in England. Speaking to Football Insider, the club's all–time Premier League top scorer said: "Dembele has the choice of Palace and Villa – he’s choosing Aston Villa.”
The pundit then demonstrated the same no filter element which led to him being publicly dug out by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp over his snipes aimed at the German. He then claimed Villa might consider the former striker but will also be eyeing other options who he believes are better. Agbonlahor added: “But they might now look at Dembele and move on to looking at other, better strikers. “There’s talk of Ferran Torres, Asensio – there will be lots of players available."
But the former England international won't likely have much to sweat as Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt hone in on Dembele with their own star boy Randal Kolo Muani set to fetch upwards of £60m in any summer bidding war with Manchester United namechecked as a potential destination.
Unai Emery's restoration job at Villa Park has been lauded in the wake of Steven Gerrard's ill–fit in the Midlands. But it would appear unlikely the amiable Spaniard would turn his nose up at a player of ex-Celtic star Dembele's status as an option to compete with star forward Ollie Watkins.
