The bead you are not allowed to cross
Pick up a mala. Run your fingers along the 108 beads and you will arrive, eventually, at one that is different, larger, often with a tassel, set apart from the rest. This is the meru bead. Every teacher will tell you the same thing: when you reach it, turn around. Do not cross it. Go back the way you came.
