Motsi Mabuse reveals future Strictly plans after 'sadness' over Oti's departure

Motsi Mabuse revealed she will be staying on the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel but is 'sad' her sister Oti won't be part of the show anymore.

The two sisters have been working on the BBC show together for several years but Oti, 32, made an announcement in February about leaving the competition.

She was part of the widely-loved programme for seven years.

Meanwhile, Motsi, 41, will be staying on the show for 'as long as they want me'.

Speaking to Prima Magazine, she said: “I’ll be sad not to see her on Strictly this year.

"I’ll always worry about my sister, but I have to respect her decision and let her go. She’s proven that she can more than protect herself and push herself to new heights"

The star continued: "Meanwhile, I’ll continue to fly the Mabuse flag on Strictly for as long as they want me."

Oti won both the 2019 and 2020 series of Strictly, alongside her celebrity partners Kelvin Fletcher and Bill Bailey respectively.

She had been planning her exit for a long time, admitting that she already knew she was going to leave before the previous year’s series.

Oti said she wanted to leave at “the peak” of her Strictly success, but revealed that she still “cried for hours” after telling BBC bosses about her decision.

Speaking to You magazine earlier this year, she said: “When I came to Britain I said to myself, ’My dream is to win Strictly.′

“And I have, and it was such an amazing seven years, but I’ve done what I needed to do."

Meanwhile, sister Motsi joined Strictly as a judge in 2019, after former ballerina Darcy Bussell left.

She recently teased that this year's series of Strictly will be the most 'brilliant' yet.

The judge is returning for the upcoming 20th series of the BBC One show alongside fellow judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and new permanent judge Anton du Beke.

The new series of Strictly will kick off this month, as the likes of Helen Skelton, Kym Marsh and Will Mellor take to the dancefloor in the hope they'll become this year's Strictly champion.

Speaking to hosts Ronan Keating and Alex Jones on The One Show today, she said: "It's going to be bigger and better, it’s exciting. We have the most fantastic professionals, I saw them rehearse, I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

"And everything is coming back, Blackpool is coming back, and some celebrations, so it’s going to be brilliant, I can’t wait – the audience is coming back, and I’ll see my judge friends."
