Motherwell chief executive Brian Caldwell has revealed there was "exceptionally bad" damage at Fir Park after last season's match against Celtic.
The CEO discussed the seating in the South Stand as a number of seats have been blocked or closed during the start to the season ahead of repair work.
Caldwell stated Celtic have agreed to cover the cost of the seats and damage done in the stadium after the dramatic match between the clubs last season. Around 350 to 500 seats need to be replaced.
Celtic claimed a late win over Motherwell last season with controversy surrounding the result following a late penalty award for a handball against Sam Nicholson which has been hotly contested.
However, despite Celtic covering the cost, Motherwell have had to wait on repairs due to having a bespoke colour of seats in the stadium.
In a wide-ranging club update, Caldwell explained: “After the Celtic game, which was the last home game of last season, the damage was quite considerable in the South Stand.
“We do get a lot of damage at a lot of games but that was exceptionally bad, after that game.
“We actually spoke to Celtic about it at the time and to be fair to Celtic they agreed to cover the cost of the seats and the damage that was throughout that stand.
“Unfortunately, because the colour we have is a bespoke colour for the seats, there was a lead in time to get the seats. So they’re actually due in, hopefully, next week.
“We’ve got something between 350 and 500 seats within those stands that are so badly damaged that they need replaced.
“It’s not just the seat backs and the seat bottoms, it’s the arm work and everything else. So it’s quite a big job, hopeful over the next couple of weeks, when we’ve got a quieter spell they will come out.
“Celtic are covering the cost of that for the installation of changing the seats round so we’ve had to section off so many of the seats.
“Anybody who was at the European games in the lower tier has seen the damage first-hand.
“The last thing we want to do is somebody sit on a seat that is going to collapse on them and then we get a claim against us, which has happened in the past.
“We’ve managed to fix enough seats in the upper tier from row JJ to the back, purely becuse it was getting 1200 to 1500 seats available for Falkirk and Dundee Utd supporters.
“The issue with the bottom section is because it is open to the elements it gets damaged and is not in good repair because of that.
“We’re trying to do what we can and hopefully the seats come in in the next week or two and we can get them installed, get them up and running and take away the black coverings and the bags over the seats that are damaged.”
