A mother and her boyfriend have denied charges over the death of her 15-month-old child.

Louise Lennon, 31, and Jake Drummond, 32, are facing criminal charges after Jacob Lennon was found unresponsive at the family home in Putney, southwest London on August 27, 2019.

The toddler died in hospital, and a post-mortem revealed he had suffered a fatal head injury.

It is said he suffered multiple injuries prior to his death, which prosecutor Sally O’Neill QC previously characterised to the court as a “concerted sadistic series of assaults on a small child”.

At the Old Bailey on Tuesday, Drummond appeared in court via videolink from prison while Lennon, who is on bail, stood in the dock.

Drummond pleaded not guilty to Jacob’s murder and an alternative charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm between July 1, 2019 and the boy’s death.

Jacob’s mother pleaded not guilty to causing or allowing the death of a child and a second charge of cruelty to a person under the age of 16.

Both defendants are due to stand trial from February 6, 2023.

Lennon, of Wandsworth, was freed on bail until the trial, while Drummond, who is not Jacob’s father and has a different address in Wandsworth, was remanded in custody.
