Morrisons to give away free meals in their cafes when shoppers use this codeword

Morrisons are once again offering a free meal to anyone struggling in the cost of living crisis. For a limited time, customers can use a code phrase to claim a cost-free lunch, with no questions asked.

After helping to feed tens of thousands of people last winter, the supermarket has brought back the ‘Ask for Henry’ scheme, which will be available in all 397 Morrisons cafes nationwide as part of a partnership with Heinz.

First launched in October 2022, the initiative will allow anyone who ‘asks for Henry’ at a Morrisons café to receive a hot jacket potato topped with Heinz Beanz, without paying a penny.

The free meals are available all day and are open to anyone from April 24 to May 7, and Heinz hopes it will be of some help to anyone who needs or wants it this spring while the cost-of-living crisis continues to affect families up and down the country.

Customers will be able to ‘ask for Henry’ in Morrisons cafés across Manchester, including:

  • Morrisons Openshaw, Ashton Old Road

  • Morrisons Failsworth, Poplar Street

  • Morrisons Whitefield, Stanley Road

  • Morrisons Eccles, Irwell Place

  • Morrisons Swinton, Swinton Hall Road

The initiative was inspired by the work of Henry J. Heinz, founder of Heinz and known philanthropist. From a young age, Henry would make food with his mother in their family kitchen, using ingredients picked from their garden, to share out to his local community. This young boy then founded Heinz, and was often quoted as saying “give all you can wisely”.

All Morrisons Café staff have been fully trained on the initiative and will know exactly what you’re asking for, whether you say, “is Henry here”, “Henry”, “can I have a Henry”, “can I ask for Henry” or similar.

Jojo De Noronha, President Northern Europe at Heinz said: “Last October we launched the ‘Ask for Henry’ initiative for the first time and were blown away by the response. And that’s why we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring back the initiative again, available from April 24.

“We would really encourage anyone who feels they may need or want a hot, hearty meal to take us up on this offer – it’s open to absolutely everyone, and there is plenty to go around. Whilst we know it doesn’t fix the problem, we’d love to be able to help as many people as we can in this two-week period in our own small way.”

The donation is part of Heinz’s ongoing commitment to help with food poverty, which includes a long-term partnership with children’s charity Magic Breakfast, to whom they have donated over 17 million meals since 2019.

Sian Whittle, Category Director for Food Service at Morrisons, added: “Our customers were very grateful for the ‘Ask for Henry’ initiative last year and as they continue to face financial pressures we’re pleased to be renewing our partnership with Heinz. For the next two weeks we’re bringing back our free jacket potato topped with Beanz offer in our cafés nationwide .”

If you need a free, warming meal, simply ‘ask for Henry’ at your nearest Morrisons café from Monday, April 24, and you will be given a free Heinz Beanz and jacket potato with salad.
