Morrisons shoppers hit out after seeing 'extortionate' price of coffee and vow to not shop there again

Shoppers have hit out at Morrisons after they noticed how expensive some coffee is being sold for in stores.

One angry customer of the supermarket giant demanded a refund when she saw the eye-watering price on her receipt.

Angela Howells-Owen went in to Morrisons to buy a 190g jar of Nescafe Gold Alta Rica, however, she couldn't get over the price of the coffee jar on her receipt. She opted for a refund and went to Home Bargains to buy the same jar of coffee at a cheaper price, reports Manchester Evening News.

Angela posted her receipt and shared her story on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook. She said: "Popped into Morrisons yesterday to pick some coffee up (alta rica) got to the till and it scanned at £9.00. I obviously queried it and they said it was correct! Got a refund and went to home bargains. Just sharing incase any body else buys it as part of a big shop, I don't always check. "

Morrisons' website is showing the 190g of Nescafe Gold Alta Rica as priced at £9, whereas by comparison, Asda is selling it for £5.50.

According to price comparison site trolley.co.uk Tesco, Sainsbury's, Ocado and Waitrose are also selling the same jar at £5.50.

Angela's post received hundreds of comments from other dismayed shoppers.

Gemma Woodhouse said: "Does anyone else think Morrisons has put prices up a lot?" Emma Hall suggested: "Try b&m as well they can have coffee cheaper in there. I got a large jar of nescafe Decaff last week for £3.69 compared to double the price in the supermarkets."

Aileen McCallum slammed: "Morrisons are starting to take the p**s with their prices on just about everything. And I'm not talking about 5/10p. Sometimes it quite a bit extra. Soon mounts up if you’re purchasing quite a few items. My dogs food has went up 60p in a couple of weeks, a Morrisons loaf from 45-89p. Then had the cheek to put it on offer at 85p. Although its my closest, I’m gonna start shopping elsewhere."

Caz Wainwright said: "Morrisons are going way over the top with their price increases. I've given up shopping there unless its an absolute necessity that I can't get elsewhere." Julie-Anne Sales added: "This doesn’t surprise me. I used to shop at Morrisons all the time but their price increases are just ridiculous. I now prefer Tesco. So much better on prices."

Maz Bridgman said: "Morrisons have been ripping people clean off for the last 10 months that I've noticed. Added an extra £2-4 on average to each item. I've vowed never to step foot in there again."
