Morrisons has become the latest major retailer to join the supermarket petrol price war by slashing the cost of fuel at 399 filling stations across the UK.
The UK supermarket chain announced it has cut the cost of its unleaded and diesel by an average of six pence a litre in a bid to help drivers keep costs low.
Morrisons has said that it is passing on the recent reductions in wholesale prices to drivers to help them reduce the rapidly rising cost of motoring.
Morrisons is the latest major supermarket to cut prices, after Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's announced they were cutting the cost of fuel at their forecourts.
It comes after supermarkets faced criticism for keeping their petrol prices high during the rising cost of living.
Petrol prices have soared to astronomical prices this year, but they have started to see a drop in recent weeks. According to the RAC, the average petrol prices dropped by nearly 9p over the month to 182.69p per litre, while diesel fell by almost 7p to 192.38p per litre.
Andrew Ball, fuel operations manager at Morrisons, said: "It's the summer holidays and we know how tough the current cost of living is for our customers.
"So we hope this fuel price reduction will help motorists to save money at this challenging time."
Here is how much Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's have also cut their petrol and diesel prices by...
Asda
Asda kicked off the petrol price war last week by announcing that it had slashed the prices of unleaded and diesel twice in one week.
The supermarket chain has cut the cost of unleaded by 5p per litre and diesel by 3p per litre at all filling stations across the country.
Motorists are said to now be paying on average £1.74 per litre for unleaded and £1.85 for a litre of diesel at Asda petrol stations
Tesco
Tesco announced this week that it has cut the cost of petrol by 6.5p per litre, while diesel was slashed by 4.5p.
A recent comparison has found that the supermarket has so far made the largest cut fuel and that it is leading the way in the petrol price war.
Sainsbury's
In a similar move, Sainsbury's has cut the cost of its fuel with an average of 5p per litre being slashed at the pumps.
The store introduced its cuts in two stages last week in line with Asda by an average of 5p. Victoria Newman, head of corporate communications for Sainsbury's, said: “We are committed to offering motorists great value and over the weekend we lowered the price of petrol and diesel across our forecourts.
