England under-21s coach Lee Carsley has confirmed Morgan Gibbs-White will captain the side in games against France and Croatia this month.
The 23-year-old was one of 26 players selected by Carsley in preparation for this summer's under-21s Euro Finals in Romania and Georgia. The Nottingham Forest attacker has been impressive for Steve Cooper this season and there was speculation he could even be included in Gareth Southgate's senior England squad.
However, after missing out on this month's Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine, Gibbs-White has the consolation of captaining the young Lions for the first time. "He's been on a brilliant journey for the last two years," Carsley said.

"He's in excellent form, he's been around the under-21s and has obviously shown now what he can do in the Premier League, which we've seen for a while. Now is a prime moment for him. He was proud [when he was told]. He's very connected to playing for England.
"He enjoys coming to camps, at every camp he's 110% committed and willing to play and get on the pitch. He's an outstanding person, as well."
The young Lions take on France at the King Power Stadium this Saturday (March 25 at 5pm). They play Croatia at Craven Cottage on Tuesday (March 28 at 7.45pm).
