Venues inside the leisure complex have started to reopen this week for the first time since The Gate was suddenly evacuated on Thursday, May 5. The Gate 's owners, The Crown Estate, later explained that the temporary closure was "to enable the team to carry out further testing of the internal mechanisms that prevent the spread of a fire ".

A further update on May 16, said The Gate was expected to remain closed for "at least four weeks" to allow for an upgrade to some of the systems and measures, "to ensure we continue to operate at the highest safety standards". However, on Saturday, May 28, Cineworld cinema and The Gate's carpark reopened.
