More than 300 international rated players to compete at First Open Classical Fide Rating Chess tournament in Jaipur

JAIPUR: The vibrant city of Jaipur is all set to become the battleground for intellectual prowess as it hosts the much-awaited Open Classical FIDE Rating Chess tournament after a hiatus of six years.

The prestigious event is slated to be held from May 29 to June 2 at the Hotel Amar Palace, Ajmer Expressway which will captivate chess enthusiasts and aficionados from across the nation.

It’s being organized under the aegis of Rajasthan Chess Association and All India Chess Federation (AICF) which promises an exhilarating display of strategic brilliance and tactical acumen as 500 plus players across India and more than 300 international rated players ageing from 5 years to 85 years are expected to compete for the coveted title.

The formal inauguration of the five-day tournament will be held on Wednesday at 9 am. The tournament is presented by Just Health and Wellness and organized by Food for needy in association with Jaipur District Chess association & Care Health Insurance with Medical partner, Narayana Health and Child Health Care partner, Neo Hospital.

With Jaipur's rich cultural heritage as its backdrop, the tournament is poised to be a celebration of intellect and skill, attracting seasoned players and emerging talents alike. This was informed by organizing Secretary, Jayendra Chaturvedi.

One of the most anticipated aspects of this event is the impressive prize pool totaling 5 Lakh, ensuring that the competition is not only fierce but also rewarding for participants. A total of 66 cash prizes will be up for grabs, along with 20 trophies that will be awarded to the top performers, adding an extra layer of prestige to their achievements.

"We are thrilled to bring back the Open Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2024 to Jaipur after a 6-year hiatus, with the inclusion of players like S.K. Rathore FM; Vinod Sharma CM; Kartavya Anadkat; Majumdar Shrayan; Kumar Gaurav as well as Siddhant Chaturvedi; Arun Kataria; Sunny Bedi; Tarun Sharma; Milind Gawde; Vikram Makhija; and Vishwanath Purohit from Rajasthan.

“This tournament will not only provide a platform for players to showcase their skills but also foster camaraderie and sportsmanship within the chess community. We are confident that this event will be a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on all who participate,” said Himmat Singh, CEO, Health & Wellness. The tournament will adhere to all necessary safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of participants and attendees.
