Homes and businesses across Greater Manchester have been hit by two power cuts. More than 1,000 properties in total are affected by incidents which took place last night and this morning (March 23), according to Electricity North West.
The company says 953 properties in Hyde, Tameside, were hit by the biggest of the two power cuts this morning. Further details on which postcodes are affected and when power could be restored have not been confirmed.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West wrote on Twitter: "We are aware of a power cut in Hyde SK14 affecting 953 customers. Our engineer is on their way to investigate.
"To receive updates on this please DM your full address and contact number. If you or anybody in your household require assistance, please call us on 105."
Electricity North West says power was restored after 20 minutes. It comes as a further 109 properties were affected by a power cut in the Uppermill and Greenfield areas of Saddleworth earlier this morning.
Electricity North West says the issue was first reported at 8.35pm last night (Wednesday). A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: "Yesterday at 8.35pm, we received reports of a power cut affecting 109 properties in Saddleworth due to an underground fault on an electricity cable.
“We responded immediately and engineers attended site, carried out a repair and supplies were restored at 3:10am.” Residents were affected in the OL3 6HU, OL3 6LB, OL3 7AN, OL3 7AR, OL3 7AT, OL3 7AU, OL3 7AW, OL3 7AX and OL3 7FS postcodes.
A post on the Electricity North West website added: "This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident with the underground cable that provides electricity to your home or business. We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible."
