More disruption on Eccles Metrolink line after vehicle 'sheds its load'

There’s disruption on the Eccles Metrolink line this morning — on the first day it's supposed to reopen.

Engineering works had been carried out from early April to yesterday (April 29) on the Eccles line, suspending part of the line from Eccles to MediaCity. However, passengers are facing more woes on Saturday, too.

That’s because a ‘road vehicle’ had shed its load in Eccles, which has meant there are delays in reopening the line fully. Tram users can board buses in Salford to get around the disruption.

“Due to a road vehicle shedding its load in the Eccles area, there is a delay in the resumption of services between MediaCityUK and Eccles,” an update posted at 9:45am on Saturday morning on the Transport for Greater Manchester website said. “Tickets and passes are being accepted on the 33 and 50 bus services. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to your journey today.”

Transport chiefs say engineering he works were carried out to ‘replace worn rails’ and apologised ‘for any disruption or inconvenience which may be caused, but they are essential to keep the line safe for passengers.’

Passengers travelling on today who need to take a replacement bus can find out more information on TfGM’s website.
