Moon Knight: Everything we know about Marvel's new Disney+ show, including release date, cast and how to watch

We're not entirely sure how or when it happened, but Disney Plus has clearly decided that Wednesdays are going to be all about must-see TV.

And who are we to argue?

The streaming giants have made it a routine to make Wednesdays the new TV episode drop day for its big shows.

And from Wednesday, March 30 that slot is going to be filled by Marvel's Moon Knight.

Relatively little was known about the show prior to today when we got the trailer, launch poster and a premiere date all in one intriguing package.

Watch the full trailer above for a full flavour of the grittiest Marvel show so far - it's definitely got a creepier and more scare-laden vibe than anything we've seen before.

It also sees lead Oscar Isaac try his hand at a British accent.

You can watch the video to make your mind up on if he nails it, but Dick Van Dyke started trending on UK Twitter shortly after the trailer was released as fans made parallels with Moon Knight and the musical legend's turn as Bert the Chimney Sweep in Mary Poppins.

Ouch.

Although one Twitter user was less than complimentary:

Harsh but fair.

What is Moon Knight?

Moon Knight is the latest Disney+ Marvel universe TV show, following Wandavision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and Hawkeye.

It stars Star Wars' Oscar Isaac as our eponymous hero - or rather heroes, as in his day-life alter-ego he is mild-mannered-museum Steven Grant who realises he shares his body and consciousness with mercenary Marc Spector.

The focus of the trailer is very much Steven Grant though, with him working by day at a museum gift shop and suffering from a dissociative identity disorder that means he ties himself to his bed to stop him from running off to get up to mischief.

We see him on the London Underground, where he is basically everyone's least favourite kind of Tube passenger, crowding into someone else's personal space by literally falling asleep on them as he battles falling into his blackout dream state.

According to Marvel's synopsis: "As Steven/Marc's enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt."

Moon Knight, the Fist of Khonshu and eventual West Coast Avenger, was created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin and first appeared in 1975.

Interestingly the trailer, which combines humour and a couple of jump scares with an iconic order for our hero to 'embrace the chaos' has already shown us, seemingly, one notable difference to its comic source material.

In the original comics Steven Grant is a millionaire playboy in the style of Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne but, it would appear, in this incarnation he is British.

We also get our first glimpse of the iconic Moon Knight costume of Egyptian Mummy-inspired white wraps.

Who stars in Moon Knight?

As well as Oscar Isaac, fresh from two other iconic sci-fi franchises - Star Wars and Dune - and Ethan Hawke who we know will be playing villain Arthur Harrow, the cast for Moon Knight includes French actor Gaspard Ulliel and May Calamawy.

The show is written and developed by Jeremy Slater, who has some experience dealing with dark comic book source material having overseen Netflix's The Umbrella Academy.

The six episode series was filmed in Budapest, Jordan and the US.

Directing duties are split between Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab and Synchronic partners Justin Beson and Aaron Moorhead.

Rumours surfaced late last month on Disney and Marvel blogs that George Clooney may also have directed an episode - if true this would mean the Oscar-winning actor's long-awaited first work with Marvel would actually be behind the camera rather than in front of it.

Moon Knight is the first in a slate of Marvel series dropping on Disney+ this year.

Ms Marvel, starring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan herself is expected mid-year.

Expectations are sky high for She-Hulk which should also appear round then and stars Orphan Black's brilliant Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters alongside, it is rumoured, Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth.

Later in the year, Secret Invasion has Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Christopher McDonald and Carmen Ejogo in the cast.

I Am Groot and a second season of What If...? are also in production, while a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is due in, unsurprisingly, December will see James Gunn return from the DC Universe where he is currently collecting plaudits for the first three episodes of Peacemaker.
