Mohamed Salah struck either side of half-time as Egypt beat Niger 3-0, while Darwin Nunez also played the full 90 minutes of Uruguay's 1-0 defeat to Iran.
The 30-year-old Egyptian, who has endured a difficult start to the new season at Anfield having only found the back of the net three times since his penalty against Manchester City in the Community Shield, put his country ahead after 43 minutes with a sublime strike into the far right corner.
After team-mate Mostafa Mohamed added a second for the hosts at the Bord El Arab Stadium on 55 minutes, Salah was there to seal the victory for Egypt from the penalty spot with just over 20 minutes to go.

Following the revamp of Liverpool's attacking line during the summer months, with the sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich and the addition of £64m-man Nunez, Salah has struggled to replicate his stunning form of seasons gone by as his overall slump across the calendar year has stretched into the new season.
Elsewhere, Nunez lined up alongside former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for Uruguay's 1-0 defeat to Iran in Austria. Lining up alongside the 35-year-old, the former Benfica man was positioned on the left-hand side of a forward three for the defeat, in what was manager Diego Alonso's first defeat since taking over the long-serving Óscar Tabárez late last year.
Jordan Henderson was not part of Gareth Southgate's squad which travelled to Milan for England's Nations League fixture against Italy on Thursday evening. That meant Trent Alexander-Arnold was the Reds' sole representative for the defeat at the San Siro, though the defender was an unused substitute during the 1-0 defeat.
Meanwhile, Alisson got the nod to start ahead of City's Ederson as Brazil eased past Ghana with a 3-0 win, with Liverpool team-mate Fabinho coming on as a second-half substitute in place of Casemiro, with Roberto Firmino remaining on the bench.
