Mohamed Salah makes statement on Liverpool future after win over Manchester United: 'It's my last year'

Mohamed Salah suggested this will be his final season as a Liverpool player, after another leading display at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old scored one and assisted the other two as the Reds beat Manchester United 3-0, making it three wins from three at the start of the Premier League season under Arne Slot.

Salah has entered the final year of his contract at the club, and offered an update on his future after the match.

"I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and try to think positive, because as you know this is my last year in the club,” Salah told Sky Sports.

“I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it, but I feel I’m free to play football and we’ll see what can happen next year.”

Salah has now scored on his last seven appearances at Old Trafford and spoke about the possibility that Liverpool’s dominant win could prove to be his final match at the ground.

“To be fair I was coming to the game and said it could be the last time [at Old Trafford],” Salah said.

“Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contract, so I just [think] ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’.”

On whether he could return to Old Trafford, a ground he described as his “second favourite place”, Salah added: “I don’t know with which club, but so far my last game with Liverpool.

“It’s not up to me. Nobody talked to me from the club, but we will see.”

Liverpool and Manchester City are the only sides to go into the international break on nine points from their first three Premier League matches, with the Reds making a superb start to life under Arne Slot.

Salah set up Luis Diaz’s brace before the break before extending the advantage after half-time, and the Egyptian admitted he was “surprised” at how much success Liverpool had against their big rivals.

“We knew that after the first-half, they are 2-0 down and were going to come and just try to man mark and run behind us in the whole pitch,” Salah said.

“But I was a little bit surprised, the game could have finished five or six. Still a tough team, but today wasn’t their day.”
