Mohamed Salah is helping Harvey Elliott in the same way Steven Gerrard guided Jordan Henderson is his young days, according to former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique.
Elliott, 19, penned a new long-term deal with the club on Thursday keeping him at Anfield until at least 2027. The ECHO understands the new contract is a reward for his progress over the last year and growth in stature.
Speaking in an interview with liverpoolfc.com, Elliott highlighted the guidance from senior players around him as a huge reason for his progress and Salah, he says, has been key to that. "They’ve all helped me along the way. But I think I’d say more Salah and the skip, to be fair – Hendo," he began.

"Just because I’ve been playing on that right side now, it’s more kind of in their positions and around their playing qualities. So, for me, it’s them two have helped me out and brought me aside and said you need to do this, or you can try this.
"Especially Mo, he’s always giving me different things to work on. He’s always telling me to follow him in training or follow him in the gym so he can help me out along the way and stuff. I mean, everyone, as I said, has done it in the journey so far and they’re all willing to help whoever."
Enrique, who made just shy of 100 appearances for Liverpool during his playing days, has praised Salah for his desire to help youngsters in the team. He also highlighted how it's similar to the support former captain and club legend Gerrard showed to Henderson in the early stages of his Anfield career.
"This is good from Mo," he wrote on Instagram, referencing an article sharing Elliott's quotes on Salah. "He can see something good in Harvey. I remember Stevie (Gerrard) used to do that with Hendo and look now!"
Elliott played a part in Liverpool's opening four Premier League games last season and even started the 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Anfield. However, a horrendous ankle injury away at Leeds United in September halted his campaign and he didn't play again until February earlier this year. This term, Elliott will hope to continue the progress he made last season and nail down a regular place in Jurgen Klopp's side.
