MMA star shows off dramatic weight loss ahead of first fight since giving birth

MMA champion Angela Lee has shown off her incredible weight loss as she prepares for her return to the cage later this year.

The former ONE FC strawweight champion hasn't fought since 2019 when she reclaimed the title, becoming a mother early last year to daughter Ava Marie.

But she is now set for her return to the cage, where she will have to weigh-in at 115lb for the first time in over two years ahead of her fight with current champion Stamp Fairtex.

Fairtex has been on a tear of late, winning three on the bounce at the end of last year after taking her first career loss in February.

But Lee has put in a lot of work of her own to get back in fighting shape, sharing a side-by-side comparison of two pictures on social media showing her at nine-months pregnant and her now, nine-months after Ava Marie was born.

"Yesterday Ava Marie made 9 months and wow, what a journey it has been for us!" Lee said in the post. "This picture really puts it all in perspective for me.

"On the left, I was 9 months pregnant with Ava, just days away from giving birth and on the right, is a picture we took today!

"Ava is 9 months old and it's been 9 months postpartum for me. I am so grateful for this body of mine, that housed, nourished and protected my baby girl.

"I am definitely taking a lot better care of my body, nourishing it not just for me but also for Ava as I'm still breastfeeding and nursing her.

"We have gone through a lot and we have grown a lot together... I'm so proud of us!

"I love you baby girl, thank you for teaching me how to be a good momma to you."

Winning the world title again after having a child would be an incredible feat for Lee, given the toll that pregnancy takes on a woman's body.

But she can be inspired by fellow mother Julianna Pena, who recently shocked the world to become the first woman since 2014 to beat Amanda Nunes and become bantamweight champion in the UFC.

Pena gave birth to her daughter in January of 2018, and returned to the cage and returned the following year, winning two of her three fights back to become top contender for the title.

And despite entering as monstrous 7/1 underdog against Nunes, Pena managed to submit the Brazilian in round two to become champion.

It remains to be seen if Lee can emulate the feat and write her name in the history books as one of the select few who have given birth and returned to become world champion in MMA.

Lee is married to Brazilian MMA fighter Bruno Pucci, who is 7-5 as a professional and hasn't fought since becoming a father.

The pair announced her pregnancy in October 2020.
