MLB owners overwhelmingly voted to make the Athletics Las Vegas’s first-ever MLB team on Thursday. However, it’s still unclear where the team will play after 2024.
The A’s currently have a lease at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum through ’24 but their permanent $1.2 billion facility on the Las Vegas Strip won’t be ready for them until 2028.
The team plans to play in a revolving series of sites until the permanent move, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports. The A’s will play games in Summerlin, Nev., home of their Triple-A team; Oracle Park in San Francisco, where the Giants play; and there’s a chance they continue to play games at the Coliseum.
The vote and impending move will end the franchise’s 55-year long tenure in Oakland and they became the third professional sports team to leave the city in the last five years, joining the Raiders and Warriors.

The A’s had the worst record in all of MLB this past season with a 50–112 mark while consistently failing to scrounge together any semblance of fan attendance at home games. Now, it will look to start anew in Las Vegas.
