The San Diego Padres beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-1, on Tuesday night in a game that had a very tense moment in the bottom of the seventh that almost led to a bench-clearing brawl.
It started with Pirates pitcher Angel Perdomo giving up a solo home run to Juan Soto. Perdomo didn’t seem to like how much Soto celebrated after hitting that blast so he drilled the next batter, Manny Machado, in the back with a 98-mph fastball on the very first pitch of the at-bat.
Machado was understandably upset and had words for Perdomo, who was ejected from the game.
This was a pretty weak move by the pitcher:

MLB fans crushed him:
Plunking someone after giving up a homer is childish https://t.co/dcaJWZFXEc

Throw a 98 mph heater at Machado's back right after giving up a Soto bomb?

Yeah I don't like Machado, but you can't defend Perdomo. Clearly intentional and Machado had every right to give Perdomo that stare down. https://t.co/GfQdull8Bj
Angel Perdomo is a terrible pitcher with a little boy’s attitude https://t.co/HaOXPR3LMp

Intentionally hitting people with 95+mph fastballs because someone celebrated in a manner you didn't like has always been corny & shouldnt be in the game https://t.co/JUcQowHCAW
