A former submarine commanding officer has said that the passengers on board the missing Titan submersible may have already died and it could take months to find them. The sub, which went missing on Sunday, now has precious few hours of oxygen left as the operation to try to find it reaches a critical stage.
As hope of finding it and bringing its occupants home alive slips away with every passing hour, ex-commanding officer Andy Coles said that they could have died from hypothermia or carbon dioxide poisoning already.
He told told the Mirror: "I don't think the submarine has any means of cleaning out the CO2 and re-circulating the air. So they will probably go to sleep way before they don't fully suffocate.
