Missing five-month-old twins were abducted from a car as mum went to pick up pizza

A pair of missing five-month-old twins were abducted from a car as their mum went to pick up pizza.

Kasson Thomass and his twin brother Kyair Thomas, from Ohio, US, were reported missing on Monday evening at about 9.45pm after being left outside Donatos Pizza's car park in Columbus.

Kyair has since been found, but Kasson is still missing after the twins were left in the car of their mum's 2010 Honda Accord as she went to collect pizza.

Police believe suspect 24-year-old Nalah Tamiko Jackson, who is homeless, was inside the pizzeria, but walked out once the mum came inside.

Cops confirmed they received a report alleging a car with two children inside had been stolen outside the restaurant.

Columbus Chief of Police Elaine Bryant said officers were at the scene in less than seven minutes following the distressing call.

She has now pleaded for the return of the missing baby: "Right now, our concern is to get the baby. We want to make sure that Kasson is safe. That is our number one priority.

"Clearly, we are concerned about everything, but we want to make sure that we bring that baby home to their family.”

Officers searched previous addresses of Jackson and three homeless camps within half an hour of the missing persons call. However, neither of the twins were found.

After 20 minutes and still no sign of the twins, an Amber Alert still hadn't been issued.

Ohio Stateway Highway Patrol issued a statewide Amber Alert at 11.45pm, but it wasn't picked up.

A second request was made at 12.05am, but police revealed it was only until 1.37am that the alert was eventually proccessed.

Chief Bryant revealed “there was a lapse of communication from the executive level” which meant an alert wasn't issued sooner, and confirmed the "lapse" was being investigated.

Authorities received a phone call nearly three hours after the Amber Alert informing them one of the missing twins, Kyair, had been found in the Dayton International Airport car park.

She is said to be well and safe, according to Bryant.

Deputy Chief Smith Weir said at a press conference the fact that Kyair had been dumped at the airport was concerning.

The officers pleaded with Jackson to return Kasson, or to leave him somewhere safe.

Mrs Bryant said: “Please return Kasson Thomass.”

Columbus Police issued photos of Jackson and the stolen car, which showed her at a Huber petrol station asking a worker for cash.

Jackson, who allegedly stole the Honda Accord, is said to have been involved in a car crash as the left side of the motor is damaged, according to police.
