Mira Sorvino shares devastating reason why she's never attended her own high shool reunion

Mira Sorvino didn't attend her own high school reunion

Mira Sorvino has never attended a high school reunion because she is still "afraid" of her former classmates.

The 58-year-old actress - who will reprise her role as Romy White in the upcoming Romy and Michele's High School Reunion - had a "miserable" time as a teenager, though she did have a valuable group of friends, so she has had no desire to revisit her school days and reconnect with the people she shared so much time with.

She told People magazine: “Here’s the crazy part. I had such a miserable experience in high school, except with my best friends.

“I never went [to a high school reunion]. I’ve never been, which is really sad.

“It’s like I’m still afraid of the A group or the mean girls or whatever you want to call it.”

Despite her sad experiences at school, Mira admitted some people from her past had attempted to get in touch and be "friends" after she found fame.

She said: “Some of them [have] written me letters over the years once I became famous, wanting to be my friends, which I found very ironic.

“I’m sure they’re all very nice people now, but I love my college reunions.”

Her co-star Lisa Kudrow - who will return as Michele Weinberger for the long-awaited sequel to the 1997 comedy classic - had attended a high school reunion in the past but vowed "never to go back".

Meanwhile, the actresses recently admitted they were "so nervous" about filming the Romy and Michele's High School Reunion sequel in case they couldn't authentically bring their alter egos back to life without it feeling like a parody.

Lisa, 60, told People magazine: “I was very nervous. [I was thinking], ‘Oh no — am I just doing an imitation of Michele? Because that’s the fear sometimes with revisiting [roles].”

Mira agreed: “The first day it was like, ‘Wait, am I just imitating things Romy used to do or say? … And then eventually it was like, ‘Yeah, Romy’s back. She’s using my skin suit."

The pair are proud that Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is still a fan favourite so many years later.

Mira said: “People dress up as us for Pride, for Halloween … babies, dogs. We’ve become part of the fixture of American life.

“I’m really honoured. I’m so happy that something we did together actually means something to a lot of people for a variety of reasons.”

Lisa added: “I had a couple of women actually come up to me [when I was] having a lunch and just leave a piece of paper with a pink pen repeating 20 lines from the movie written all over front and back. I thought that was extraordinary.”
