Minnesota Vikings' Draft Pick Khyree Jackson Dies In Car Crash

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Akayleb Evans (21) is called for interference on Chicago Bears wide receiver Tyler Scott during the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, in Chicago

Tragedy struck the football world as Khyree Jackson, the Minnesota Vikings' 2024 fourth-round draft pick and former Oregon standout, lost his life in an early morning car crash that also claimed the lives of two others. Jackson, aged just 24, had a promising career ahead of him before the unfortunate incident.

The fatal accident occurred on a Saturday morning, with Maryland State Police confirming that Jackson, along with two others, lost their lives in the crash. The Vikings organization expressed deep sorrow over the loss, with head coach Kevin O'Connell sharing heartfelt sentiments about Jackson's character and potential.

According to police reports, the crash involved three vehicles - a maroon Dodge Charger, a silver Infiniti Q50, and a silver Chevrolet Impala. Jackson, a passenger in the Charger, and his teammate Isaiah Hazel, who was driving the car, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another teammate, Anthony Lytton Jr., who was in the rear of the car, also succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital.

The tragic incident unfolded when the driver of the Infiniti, identified as Cori Clingman, collided with the Charger while attempting to change lanes at a high speed. The impact also involved the Chevrolet, resulting in the devastating outcome. Authorities suspect that alcohol may have played a role in the crash, and investigations are ongoing with potential charges pending.

Reflecting on Jackson's journey, he had taken a hiatus from football after high school but later returned to the sport during his community college days. Transitioning from wide receiver to cornerback, he showcased his skills at top-tier programs like Alabama and Oregon, earning accolades along the way. His teammates Hazel and Lytton also had notable football careers at various universities.

The football community mourns the loss of Khyree Jackson and his companions, remembering them for their talent and camaraderie on and off the field. As investigations continue into the tragic accident, the impact of this loss reverberates through the sports world.
