Millions will miss out on £330 National Insurance change

While millions of people are due to see a £330 annual cash boost from this month, many others will miss out.

The National Insurance threshold changed yesterday, July 7, meaning some will save hundreds. However, some people won't see any savings as they won't be affected, reported Birmingham Live.

The lowest earners won't be able to benefit, because they earn less than £9,500 a year which means they don't pay any National Insurance contributions anyway. Those who are unemployed also won't benefit and neither will anyone earning more than around £31,000.

The more you earn, the less you gain from the National Insurance changes because the tax hike outweighs the raised threshold. Across the UK, the Westminster government said, some 30 million will benefit from the tax cut.

It said the average bricklayer would save £218 a year, care workers £324, hairdressers £118, and nursery assistants £343. Some 2.2 million across the UK will not pay the personal tax altogether, the Treasury said.

Alice Haine, personal finance analyst at investment platform Bestinvest, said a £330 saving "won't stretch far when you realise that only equates to £27.50 a month". She continued: "Yes, every penny counts in this cost-of-living crisis and for some, that £27.50 could be the difference between having dinner every night and sometimes going without.

"For others, however, that amount will barely make a dent in their budgets as they struggle to pay the household bills amid rampant inflation as soaring food, fuel and energy prices become the norm."
