Millions to start receiving £301 DWP cost of living payment next week

Millions of Brits will receive a cash boost from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) next week in the form of the first cost of living payment.

According to the DWP, the first payment will be handed out from Tuesday, April 25 and will continue to be rolled out until May 17. This first payment will initially be handed out to those who receive their benefits from the DWP, while Tax Credits claimants will receive their first payment from HMRC at a slightly later date.

This will be the first payment among three which will be rolled out throughout 2023/24, with additional payments of £299 and £300 to be issued in due time.

Mel Stride, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said: “These payments will give a financial boost to more than eight million households as we continue to wrap our arms around the most vulnerable, while the best way we can protect people from high costs is to halve inflation by the end of this year.

“In the long-term, we know work is the best route out of poverty, which is why we recently announced additional Work Coach support to help more people find work or increase their hours. Anyone looking to boost their skills or progress their career should speak to their work coach to ensure they’re accessing all the support the DWP can provide.”

To be eligible for Cost of Living payments, you must receive one of the following:

  • Universal Credit

  • Working Tax Credit

  • Child Tax Credit

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

  • Pension Credit

The payments will be handed out automatically into the same account you receive your benefit payments in, therefore, there is no need to apply.
