A urine sample that looked like milk set doctors on the trail of an unusual diagnosis. The cause was not an infection or a kidney problem in the usual sense. Fat-rich fluid from the body's lymphatic system was leaking into the urinary tract through an abnormal channel.
The case, published in June 2026 in The New England Journal of Medicine by Carles Cañameras and Jaume Sampere of Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol in Badalona, Spain, is titled "Chyluria from a Lymphatic-Urinary Fistula." It shows how a body system most people never think about can announce a problem in a startling way.
