Impressive Mikey Johnston made an instant debut impact for Republic of Ireland moments after climbing off the bench to help spark a vital 3-2 win over Latvia.
The Celtic star has impressed on loan at Vitoria Guimares this season and his ingenuity was there for all to see as he bobbed and weaved through traffic to crack the post before a grateful Chiedozie Ogbene turned home. It was a thrilling win for Stephen Kenny's side ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifying opener on Monday.
Johnston was eye-catching during his time on the pitch as he impressed punters within the Aviva Stadium urging him forward every time he touched the ball. And they were left gutted his jinking run in the final five minutes didn't result in a goal after a last-gasp deflection. The 23–year-old has made his stint away from Parkhead count after limited opportunities under Ange Postecoglou last season.
And he's set for an extended role for his country after turning heads during his all–action cameo. And he could be set for an even greater challenge as Kenny's men host World Cup finalists France on home turf on Monday evening.
