Arsenal's first signing of the summer transfer window is expected to be announced in the coming days.
football.london understands that Kai Havertz will be joining the Gunners from Chelsea in a deal worth £60million with an additional £5million in add-ons. The Germany international underwent a medical overseas over the weekend before he seals a move to Mikel Arteta's side.
Arteta himself was very complimentary of Havertz during a recent interview, telling Spanish outlet Marca : "Talent comes at a price, and at Arsenal we are always interested in youngsters with experience. I repeat, I'm not talking about players from other clubs, but in the case of Kai he has already shown a lot, including in the Champions League.
"He is a talented player, versatile and only 24 years old." Now, German outlet Sportbild have reported some details from negotiations, claiming that one of the biggest reasons for Havertz making the switch across the capital was because Arteta assured him that he would play in his favoured position, in midfield.
The Spaniard is claimed to have promised him game time as a number eight or No.10 alongside club captain Martin Odegaard, ideally with Declan Rice sitting behind the two playmakers. Havertz is said to want to prove himself in a deeper role to the German national team ahead of the 2024 European championships.

Speaking about his favoured role to the Athletic back in 2021, he said: "More or less, I’m a midfield player but I like to go into the box, and maybe that’s why not every defensive player has me on their mind - I just run through the midfield and then I’m there."
