Mikel Arteta makes first January transfer decision with Arsenal midfielder recalled from loan

Arsenal have chosen to cut Miguel Azeez's loan at La Liga 2 side UD Ibiza short following a disappointing first half of the season in Spain. Azeez joined the club at the start of September in search of regular first-team football, but has seen another loan spell ended prematurely, with the 20-year-old suffering the same fate last season.

The Hale End graduate spent the first half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Portsmouth but made just six appearances before the decision was made to bring him back to north London in January 2022. For the remainder of the season Azeez was part of Arsenal's first-team squad, although he did not make one appearance despite being selected in four Premier League matchday squads.

Azeez was able to make more appearances in his latest loan spell with UD Ibiza handing the midfielder eight starts with a further three cameos from the bench.

However, after being dragged off at half time in the league outing against Real Zaragoza on December 12, Azeez failed to make another appearance and following that decision, the Spanish club confirmed that an agreement had been reached which would see Azeez return to Arsenal.

In a post on Twitter, the club wrote: "Miguel Azeez is no longer a UD Ibiza player. @Arsenal and UD Ibiza have reached an agreement to end the loan that linked him to our club. From UD Ibiza we wish him all the luck in the world in his professional future. Thank you Michael!"

This looks unlikely to be Arsenal's only decision in January with Shakhtar star Mykhaylo Mudryk the recipient of strong interest from the Gunners who saw their opening bid of £55million plus add-ons swiftly rejected last week
