Arsenal have a great chance to embarrass Spurs and improve their squad in the January transfer window with the signing of Leandro Paredes.
According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain are in discussions with Spurs as they are trying to sign Tanguy Ndombele before the window slams shut on January 31st.
The Parisian club reportedly offered Paredes in a swap deal for the French midfielder, but according to RMC Sport, the Argentine refused to join Tottenham as part of the deal.
The Gunners are in desperate need of a midfielder, and if they could persuade Paredes to join the red half of north London, it would give Mikel Arteta’s side a major advantage in the battle for the top four.
Arsenal and Spurs are both fighting for the top four positions with them only being one point away from each other, but if Spurs were able to sign Paredes, then they would have gained the advantage as their midfield would see a massive improvement.
The fact that the Ligue 1 side offered Paredes in a potential swap deal shows that he is available for a transfer and it is certainly a deal that Arteta should explore.
Despite rejecting Spurs, Arsenal can take confidence in securing his signature as Edu has managed to persuade players from the South American region to join the club before.
Paredes was crucial for Argentina in their COPA America victory over the summer where they beat Edu’s Brazil in the final. The midfielder has tons of experience and has been a pivotal part of his club and country’s title successes in recent seasons.
Arsenal are currently targeting Arthur Melo to solve their midfield issues, as according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the players’ agent Federico Pastorello has travelled to the English capital to outline his client's desire to join the north London side.
However, if this deal fails to get completed, then Paredes would be an excellent backup option and provide a solid partnership with Thomas Partey.
Arsenal could hit two birds with one stone by securing the signature of Paredes, as not only would it be moral damaging for Spurs, but the signing would also improve Arteta’s side in their push for Champions League qualification.
