Newcastle United have enjoyed a resurgence under the tutelage of head coach Eddie Howe but there have been victims of the squad rejuvenation he has overseen.
The 28-year-old appeared in 34 of Newcastle's 38 Premier League matches last season and was a regular starter under Steve Bruce until his departure last October.
However, since Howe was announced as Bruce's successor, Almiron has made just three league starts for the Magpies.
His introduction as a substitute in the draw with West Ham United marked his first Premier League outing in over a month having been kept on the bench for wins over Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa.
However, a message shared on his Instagram story suggests the Paraguay international is working hard to force his way into Howe's starting XI.
He has posted a picture of himself in a gym, accompanied by text reading 'no day off'.
The message will be music to the ears of Howe, who will be hoping his fringe players remain motivated for the 18 remaining Premier League fixtures.
Bolstering in the January transfer window has buoyed the Magpies but in a demanding division, it is often the clubs with quality in reserve that best handle tense run-ins and hectic schedules.
Between 10 and 20 March, Newcastle have four league fixtures scheduled, three of which take place away from St James' Park.
Although Almiron is not currently one of the first names on Howe's teamsheet, it is likely he will still have use as the campaign enters its latter stages.
Competition for places can also raise the game of members of the squad and if Almiron is pushing hard for starting berths, those currently favoured ahead of him will be kept on their toes.
Howe's men return to action on Saturday when they visit West London for a meeting with Thomas Frank's Brentford.
