Microsoft's CEO total compensation for 2024 has soared 63% to the high tens of millions of dollars, making him 400 times more than the average employee.

Satya Nadella's salary has passed $79 million. The substantial increase comes after Microsoft's market capitalization exceeded $3 trillion, driven largely by investments in AI technologies and increases in stock valuations.

Nadella's base payment of $2.5 million has remained the same as the previous year. However, he has received cash bonuses and additional stock awards.

In 2023, Nadella was given $39 million in stock awards, bringing his total income for the year to $48.5 million. Since then, Microsoft stock price has increased 28%.

As of this year, $71 million of Nadella's total compensation comes from stock awards. Meanwhile, the average salary at Microsoft, not taking the CEO's into account, was $193,744, Seattle Times reported.

Based on that comparison, Nadella's overall compensation is 408 times greater than the average employee.

In a letter from Microsoft's compensation committee, Nadella "[reflected] on his personal commitment to security and his role as the CEO, asked the Board to consider departing from the established performance metrics and reduce his cash incentive to reflect his personal accountability for the focus and speed required for the changes that today's cybersecurity threat landscape showed were necessary."
