As per a study published in the International Journal of Molecular Science, regular exposure to microplastics leads to behaviour change in mice which is similar to the changes seen during dementia in humans. The study by researchers from the University of Rhode Island, US, found that microplastics also cause changes to the proteins in liver and brain tissues.
The mice were exposed to microplastics through drinking water for three weeks.
