Michigan State traveled to Minneapolis for a date with Minnesota on Friday night, a huge game for Big Ten standings purposes. It was the Spartans who prevailed on Friday night, taking 2-of-3 points from the Golden Gophers, defeating the hosts in a shootout.
The game, officially scored as a 3-3 tie, was an uphill climb for the Spartans, who spent majority of the night in the penalty box. The plethora of penalites led to 47 shots on goal by Minnesota, but freshman goaltender Trey Augustine stood on his head for MSU, making 44 saves, leading his team to victory.
The Spartans won 1-0 in a three round shootout, with the lone goal coming from Karsen Dorwart of MSU.
The two teams will square off in game two tomorrow night in Minneapolis.
