Michigan health officials confirmed on Monday that two people have died after becoming ill with cyclosporiasis, the first deaths reported in connection with a parasite outbreak that has produced more than 18,000 confirmed and suspected illnesses across the United States since the start of May.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said medical records show both individuals had significant underlying health conditions that may have been affected by cyclosporiasis and dehydration. The department said no additional information about the two cases will be released.
