Michelle Yeoh has one of the most trailblazing careers of anyone in Hollywood.
She transitioned from being an action star in Hong Kong cinema to being a major player in the American film industry, with her turn in 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies and 2000’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon helping fuel her stateside breakout.
With her acclaimed performance in last year’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, she could take home the Best Actress at Sunday’s 95th Academy Awards.
Has she ever won an Oscar before, or would this be her first?
This is actually her first nomination at the Academy Awards, although she earned plenty of attention for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and could’ve been nominated for that martial-arts classic.
Yeoh is primarily contending with Tár‘s Cate Blanchett for the Best Actress Oscar. One of those two have the best chance at the honor. Yeoh won the Screen Actors Guild, while Blanchett won the BAFTA.
It’ll be a photo finish between the two Hollywood heavyweights.
