The owners of a well-known, Michelin-starred restaurant in North Wales have put the site on the market, but have expressed their hopes to stay on. Stephen and Bethan Stevens opened Sosban and The Old Butchers - an eight-seat fine dining restaurant - in Menai Bridge on Anglesey back in 2013.
Prior to opening his own restaurant, Stephen had worked as a chef at Gordon Ramsay’s three Michelin-starred Royal Hospital Road restaurant in London as well as Plas Bodegroes on the Pen Llyn under Chris Chown. Quickly establishing the restaurant as the place to go for fine dining on Anglesey, the pair won their first Michelin star in 2016 - and have held the culinary accolade ever since.
According to a North Wales Live report, the owners have confirmed the site has been placed up for sale, however fans of the Michelin-starred restaurant need not worry as the couple have said they hope to remain as tenants under any new owner. The building, which is Grade II-listed, is on sale with Christie and Co for £450,000.
Commenting on the sale, the commercial agent said: "Sosban & The Old Butchers has a number of accolades including a Michelin Star and 4 AA Rosettes, along with a place in the Good Food Guide top 50. Our client has indicated that he would be keen to continue operating the restaurant and therefore, is prepared to enter into a lease agreement with a new owner providing an immediate and regular income.
"There is planning to convert the unused rooms into four en suite bedrooms providing letting accommodation in this popular town. This Michelin Star restaurant is configured for eight diners over four tables, and also comprises; a kitchen, storage to the rear, lower ground cellar, and a rear entrance.
“Situated across both first and second floors, are six currently unmodernised rooms which have plans to convert into four en suite letting bedrooms, with a separate kitchen leading onto an outdoor terrace In addition, there is a kitchen and toilet located on the first floor mezzanine."
As one of only three Welsh restaurants to be named as La Liste’s guide to the world’s best, The Old Butchers attracted visitors from across Wales and further afield in the North West. It is one of only six Welsh restaurants holding the covetable Michelin star and typically has a long waiting list due to the quality of the food and limited covers available.
