Michael Owen has been backed by fans after retaliating to a 'gross' remark about his teenage daughter Gemma as she stars on the new series of Love Island.
Dressage rider Gemma was the most talked about contestant on this year's line-up, before she even went into the villa, thanks to being the child of Liverpool, Newcastle and England player Michael. And, after all the anticipation over her appearance on Love Island, the 19-year-old was at the heart of the action in week one.
At the end of the first night in the villa she had her head turned by late arrival Davide, 'snubbing' original love interest Liam, before he later quit the show. And, then on Friday night's show, viewers saw Luca pick Gemma to couple up with, after admitting his feelings to her a night earlier.

There's more drama to come on Sunday when Gemma's ex, rugby player Jacques O'Neill goes into the villa as the latest 2022 bombshell. But, before then, dad Michael gave a football coach a dressing down over a comment he made on Twitter.
After Michael, who has also been on TV this week as a pundit for England's Nations League games, admitted in an interview that he wasn't keen on seeing Gemma kiss anyone, a Glasgow based under-18s coach responded: "Can’t wait to see her getting smashed." Making an example of the Twitter user, Michael hit back: "What a fine example to set from a man in your responsible position."
Michael's reply was backed by scores of fans, with one commenting: "There’s a line and he crossed it," and another writing: "Should be sacked with immediate effect."
Michael then returned to Twitter to post: "I only selected him from of hundreds of examples. Good job I’m used to dressing room banter / taking stick. And you’re right, nobody ever says anything to your face!"
