Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has made an ‘ironic’ claim about Steven Gerrard and the Premier League title race.
The Reds are battling with Manchester City for the league title, and are three points behind with three matches left to play. Liverpool will go into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s side take on Aston Villa on Tuesday night, who are managed by Reds legend Gerrard. Villa are then due to face Man City at the Etihad Stadium in the final league fixture of the season.

Owen, who spent several years as a team-mate alongside Gerrard at Liverpool and came through the club’s academy, has given his views on how Villa could have a say on the title race. The ex-Reds striker has pointed out the “irony” behind the way the fixtures have panned out in the closing weeks of the season.
"Stevie could have a big say in what happens," Owen told the BBC .
"It's quite ironic really that his team can have an influence on both sides.
"If you ask Stevie, who bled Liverpool FC, I'm sure he'll want to see his old side win the league.
"But he's professional, his team is professional. I'm sure he'll put his best side out and go out to win against both teams."
