Michael Mosley shares the 'naughty' foods that can actually help you lose weight

Dr Michael Mosley has been helping people to lose weight for years, and regularly appears on TV shows to share his best tips.

With summer now well and truly here, people may be searching for healthy methods to lose weight as warmer weather hits the UK. Dr Mosley is renowned for offering diet tips and his methods have proved increasingly popular over the years.

The health guru is a huge advocate of the Mediterranean Diet, which focuses on lean meat and lots of fresh vegetables. But there are also some more indulgent choices dieters can enjoy, he says.

As reported in the Mirror, chocolate may be considered a complete no-go on a diet; however, it entirely depends on the type you are craving. Milk chocolate is obviously high in calories and sugar content, but dark chocolate actually has a few health benefits.

Surprisingly, this is also true with wine, within reason, as stated on Dr Mosley's The Fast 800 website, and these two can make an ideal after dinner treat.

It reads: "Research shows that resveratrol, a compound present in red wine (as well as in blueberries, cranberries and cocoa) can contribute to the health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet. So, if you would like to complement your recipes with the occasional glass of red or piece of dark chocolate, you can."

The trick is not over indulging in these treats, but rather having them a few times throughout the week as a reward for maintaining the rest of your diet. It doesn't just end there though, as fruits can be also be a perfect dessert substitute, though once again you should be careful about which ones you're having.

On the website it reads: "Enjoy berries, apples and pears, which have less sugar than sweet, tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple and melon."
