Michael Mosley's rapid weight loss tip lets you eat far more of one food group

TV diet guru Michael Mosley, who created the Fast 800 and 5:2 Diet, swears by a specific food group to help with losing weight quickly.

While dieting often focuses on what we shouldn't eat, Mosley focuses on eating more of what's good for you.

The diet guru encourages us to eat more of certain foods to help weight watchers curb cravings for unhealthy food, build muscles and keep weight off in the long term.

Here are the foods that you should add more of to your diet to help you lose weight and maintain your metabolism in the long run.

What food helps you lose weight quickly?

Dr Mosley encourages people to consume more protein to help you slim down.

He recommends that adults consume at least around 60g of protein every day. He claims that those who eat less than the recommended amount of protein could be harming their metabolic rate.

He said: "Your body will cannibalise your muscles and your metabolic rate will go down. It's really important to have a decent amount of protein, which is 50-70g a day."

Foods rich in protein include meat, fish and legumes. Other protein-rich foods include:

  • Eggs
  • Almonds
  • Chicken breast
  • Lean beef
  • Greek yoghurt
  • Tofu
  • Cottage cheese
  • Lentils
  • Spinach
  • Quinoa.

Michael explains: "The reason for protein is you need it for your muscle. If you do a safe and effective rapid weight loss diet, two to three years down the road you'll keep most of that weight off."

Besides natural foods with high protein content, you can also add protein shakes and protein bars to your diet to further increase your protein intake.
