Michael Caputo, a former top Health and Human Services spokesperson who survived head and neck cancer, has been appointed by President Donald Trump to the President's Cancer Panel, HHS announced Oct. 4. The panel monitors the nation's cancer programs and reports to the president.
The appointment puts a cancer survivor's perspective on a small advisory body at a time when head and neck cancers tied to HPV are rising. The panel's recommendations are advisory and do not change cancer treatment guidelines or coverage on their own.
